How to get started with Kantoko
Before booking your first appointment, there are 3 steps you need to complete.
You will need a valid referral from your GP and some lab tests.
Step 1: Complete your profile
You'll need to make sure your profile is completed, which you can do by logging into your account and updating your settings: https://app.kantoko.com.au/settings/.
Please make sure you provide your:
- Address
- Medicare Details
Step 2: Complete Assessments
We also need you to complete additional assessments for us to verify Kantoko can provide the right care for you, assist with diagnosis and also provide some additional information for your clinician.
Self-Assessments
You will need to complete a few online self-assessments, which you can find at https://app.kantoko.com.au/assessments/. Your Clinician will discuss these with you in your initial appointment.
External Assessments
Please make sure these external assessments are completed by someone else and not you.
You will need to ensure 2 other people complete these assessments. Click on 'External' in your dashboard under 'assessments', which will prompt you to email and invite someone to complete the assessments.
- ASRS-O (ASRS Observer, v0524) - this can be completed by anyone (a good friend, co-worker, family member or partner).
- Verification of Childhood Symptoms (VCS) - this must be completed by someone who has known you since before the age of 13. Completing this assessment is necessary to comply with the eligibility requirements for the Pharmaceutical Benefits System (PBS), where you can receive a subsidy for cheaper medication.
Additional information
- The same person can complete these assessments, as long as that person has known you since before the age of 13
- If you don't have someone who has known you since before the age of 13, you can provide school reports or teacher comments highlighting any relevant issues.
Step 3: Upload Requirements
You will need to upload a GP Referral and lab tests to your dashboard. You can click on 'Documents' at the top of your dashboard and click 'Add Document' on the top right.
GP Referral
We will need a valid GP referral, which includes:
- the date of the referral
- your GP's signature
- your GP's provider number or address
We don't require Kantoko to be named for the referral and it can be addressed to 'Dear Psychiatrist'. You can pass the below details to your GP, or send them this link: https://www.kantoko.com.au/referral.

Routine Tests
We require the following routine tests, which will help your clinicians monitor health factors that could be impacted by psychiatric treatment and medications.
|
Some psychiatric medications, such as antipsychotics and certain antidepressants, can affect heart rhythm and function. An ECG helps us monitor your heart’s health and detect any potential cardiovascular risks before and during your treatment. This test ensures that your medication is safe to continue. |

|
A blood test for these markers helps us detect underlying health issues, such as anemia or infections, that could affect your treatment. It also monitors for any side effects of medications that may impact your blood count. |
|
Psychiatric medications can cause changes in blood pressure, leading to either high (hypertension) or low (hypotension) blood pressure. Regular BP monitoring helps us manage these risks and adjust treatment as needed to prevent complications. |
|
Monitoring your pulse helps us detect irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias) that could be induced by psychiatric medications. Regular pulse checks allow us to manage cardiac risks effectively. |

|
Weight changes are a common side effect of many psychiatric medications, particularly antipsychotics. By tracking your weight, we can identify any significant changes that may require adjustments to your medication or additional care for conditions like metabolic syndrome. |
These tests are essential for ensuring your psychiatric treatment is both safe and effective. Regular monitoring allows us to tailor your care to your needs, minimise risks, and ensure the best possible outcomes for your mental and physical health.
