No, you can start with Kantoko without a referral. You'll just need to nominate a GP.
Why we ask you to nominate a GP
Your GP sees the whole picture of your health. We look after your ADHD. Working together means the people treating you have the same information.
ADHD medication can affect other aspects of your physical health, so having a regular GP who knows your history and can see you in person is part of safe prescribing.
Who to nominate
Nominate your regular GP, or a GP clinic you’ve been to in person.
GP clinics that are 100% telehealth don't count, because we require you to nominate a GP or clinic that can see you face to face. Make sure you've nominated an in-person GP clinic prior to your 1st appointment.
What happens next
When you start with Kantoko, we contact your GP clinic. We let them know you’re seeing us and ask them for a GP Health Summary: your medical history, current medications, allergies and any relevant conditions. If your regular GP already referred you to us, we skip this step.
Before you start treatment, your ADHD Doctor will require you to upload test results prior to your 2nd appointment, so we recommend booking with your GP early so your results are ready in time. The full onboarding requirements are explained here.
As your care progresses, we keep your GP updated through regular letters.
If your nominated GP says you’re not their patient
Sometimes a clinic tells us they don’t have a record of you. If that happens, we’ll let you know. Update your nominated GP in your Kantoko account to a clinic you’ve been to before, and we’ll pick it up from there.
No regular GP? Find one near you.
Plenty of people don’t have a regular GP. Book in at a clinic near you. That first visit can double as you arranging your required blood tests and ECG. Once you’ve been, nominate them in your Kantoko account.
