In some cases Non-stimulant ADHD medications, such as atomoxetine (Strattera) or guanfacine (Intuniv), can be prescribed under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) instead of privately.
Who is eligible for PBS?
Under current PBS criteria, these medications are only subsidised if:
- The patient was diagnosed with ADHD by a paediatrician or psychiatrist, and
- The diagnosis occurred between the ages of 6 and 17 years (inclusive)
If these criteria are not met, the medication must be prescribed as a private (non-PBS) script.
